FAQ

What is a Living Legacy Interview?

A Living Legacy Interview is a memoir on video that captures a parent, grandparent or multiple family members sharing life stories, family history and memories for younger generations to know. Often woven together with family photos and other memorabilia, this beautiful “moving portrait” is a modern-day heirloom your family will treasure for generations to come.

If I am married or have a family, can we simply use one interview session for a couple or one interview per family?

Each individual person must have their own Living Legacy Inverview. Two or more interviews may be edited together by special arrangement.

How much does it cost?

A edited package ranges from $595 to thousands dollars with the median cost of a package with interview, edits, titles, embedded photos and enhancements priced at about $960.

A basic 40-minute unedited interview and permanent, secure online storage through the ElijahProject.org is offered at the low price of $395 USD.  Most people choose other services too such as editing, titles, still photo restoration/enhancement, additional interviewee's and more. See our Prices page for more information.

Pro bono (free) 20-minute interviews, when requested, are clustered together with paid interviews on a particular day and location. These interviews are archived immediately and unavailable to access for 10 years.

My granddaughter dabbles in video. Why should I go through ElijahProject.org to make a legacy video biography?

While it’s ideal for a family member to record you sharing your memories, few have the equipment, skills and time needed to produce an heirloom quality Living Legacy Video. A full Living Legacy Video typically involves several dozen hours of editing and post-production.

More than 90% of North Americans own a smart phone but it is estimated that fewer than 1 in 6,000 people have video recorded themselves telling stories from their lives. Many think its a good idea; many think they will do it themselves; few actually get around to doing it.  Of those who record stories themselves, seldom is the video quality great to last for generations. An interviewee could be the wittiest, most likable person on the planet, but if your interview isn’t well-lit, and filmed with high quality video cameras the resulting footage will be a dark, grainy mess that people are less likely to enjoy watching.

How do I receive my Living Legacy Interview?

I have family overseas, is my interview accessible anywhere in the World?

Yes. Anywhere with internet access.

Why do I need a Living Legacy Interview?

A Living Lagacy Interview™ is perhaps the most important project you will ever accomplish and are a perfect complement for your Will.

A Will grants power over who will receive your property, who will control your estate, and who may be the guardian of your children after your death. Without a Will, your assets could remain undistributed or go to people you would never have wanted to receive those assets. Furthermore, your family could spend years in court and incur significant legal fees in order to determine what your intentions were for your estate.

A personal legacy video biography is the most effective way to convey your motivations and values through stories from your own life told by you.

After I receive an Interview, do I have to do anything for it to be preserved and protected indefinately?

No. Your interview will be unlisted on YouTube and the Elijah Project online database.

Once I have completed my Interview, is there a charge for any changes I may want to make later on?

Yes.

Why is the non-profit called 'Elijah Project'?

We feel passionately about building community through preserving grandparents and parents stories. The name Elijah references a tradition of him "turning the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to their fathers" (Book of Malachi 4:5-6).  The Book of Malachi is the last book of the Neviim contained in the Tanakh, canonically the last of the Twelve Minor Hebrew Prophets.

What video format(s) and orientations do you produce?

We use 4k (3840 x 2160), full HD (1920 x 1080), and a 4k-full HD hybrid formats in both Landscape and Portrait orientations.
